Panels, whether rod pocket or pleated on rings, are by far the most popular way to dress a window and can significantly soften a space, adding both texture and color. Whether custom made or pre-manufactured, panels vary widely in appearance through their construction and fabric composition. Capable of being full and dramatic in the most traditional rooms or sleek and minimal in the most contemporary of settings, the versatility of panels has contributed to their wide appeal. When looking for panel fabric, consider whether the finished appearance should convey soft fullness, weighty sleekness or something in between. For a voluminous appearance, consider utilizing relatively light weight fabric, like silk or taffeta, in sufficient quantities. If a heavy and clean lined look is desired, consider utilizing a fabric with substantial weight, such as wool or mohair. As with most fabric window treatments, lining will give panels weight and protect them from fading due to the sunlight.
