TRACK LIGHTING
Track lighting offers a relatively inexpensive alternative to recessed fixtures due to the dramatic reduction in labor necessary for installation. As long as a junction box is available, some amount of track lighting can be installed rather quickly and efficiently. Although older track fixtures showcase bulky incandescent heads hanging from thickly profiled tracks, newer models offer slim profiles and head types just slightly larger than the bulb itself. Where ceilings are concrete (often found in high rise situations) or where holes can not be created, but even light distribution is desired, track lighting is a potential solution easily installed with little experience.
- INCANDESCENT TRACK LIGHTING- often found in older homes but has quickly become supplanted with inexpensive halogen kits. Although incandescent heads are often larger than their halogen counterparts, they are usually less expensive, and dissipate less heat. Incandescent track lighting kits may be purchased at major home improvement stores in 6'-0" and 8'-0" kits complete with track and several heads.
- HALOGEN/ LOW VOLTAGE TRACK LIGHTING- often considered the most popular form of track lighting due to the more attractive fixture head styles and cost savings. As with halogen lamping found in decorative and recessed lighting, halogen track lighting offers the advantage of clearer, crisper "white" light, illuminating generally as well as directionally to highlight art and focal points.
